Animus' first known encounter with the Bureau was with Team Damballah in 1977.
During this encounter, Animus managed to kill three of the six team members, including Sven Peterson (an E-mortal), before apparently being killed by Sean O'Connor, the team's Psionic.
This encounter took place just one day before the Massacre of '77 and was not even known about until recently when a lost supply dump was found with a report drawn up by team leader Curtis Tallero. The report had not been transmitted at the time of the massacre.

Animus was next encountered several years later by Team Scorpio when he sent several highly advanced androids to kill Agent Barnes, who was Team Scorpio's psionic. Since the first encounter, Team Scorpio has been assaulted on numerous occasions by Animus's agents who are often armed with Bureau equipment has apparently been raided from supply dumps. Some of these assassins have even been enhanced by the Stygian Formula.
Animus's reasons for wanting to destroy Team Scorpio are only vaguely understood. Recently Team Scorpio has discovered that Animus is a psionic "body hopper" bent on world domination. Team Scorpio has discovered through their encounters with Animus that he has somehow been receiving help from a future version of himself, from 45 years hence. He also possesses strong Precognitive ability which has allowed him to both avoid capture and to set traps for Team Scorpio. In January of 1998 Team Scorpio managed to capture Animus by incapacitating the body he was currently occupying. The body was then taken to the "Bangor, Maine" facility and held there in a state of perpetual unconsciousness (a drug induced coma). Unfortunately, two months later, the body melted and a Bureau guard was reported AWOL.
Animus's current whereabouts are unknown. If encountered, he should be considered hostile and extremely dangerous.
If any agents encounter Animus they are instructed to fall back to a safe location and contact Bureau HQ and transmit call in Team Coldfire.
