mandPrestige Class: Mandalorian Warrior

For thousands of years the Mandalorian name has been synonymous with warriors of great skill and ferocity, for anyone to be compared with a member of the fabled Clans is a high honor indeed. Not simply soldiers, members of the Mandalorian Clans were born and raised to achieve the peak of combat ability, those who were too weak or unwilling to fight died young leaving only the strongest to reach adulthood.
There were once over two hundred races of Mandalorians, which were found amongst ten thousand individual clans. Those ten thousand clans were usually composed of five 'tribes' each, with a tribe encompassing one distinct family and extended family. For the most part, Mandalorians were defined by their clan, and then by tribe/family within that clan.

Although most of the Clans are now extinct and the Mandalore Empire long gone, a few beings still survive who call themselves Mandalorian Warriors.

The Mandalorians care nothing of right vs. wrong, good vs. evil, or anyone’s politics.

The Mandalorian Code is simple and is composed three facets of life: Strength, Honor, and Death.
  • Mandalorians are required to be strong at all times, signs or weakness invite disaster and any Mandalorian perceived as weak by his fellows can be challenged to a death duel to prove their strength.
  • Honor is very important to the Mandalorian Clans. Fighting with honor is the only way to fight, should a Mandalorian Warrior fight in a dishonorable fashion he would be slain by his clansmen for tarnishing the name of the clan with his actions. It was considered to best to die fighting honorably than to survive though dishonorable means.
  • Death is a fact of life to the Mandalorians. Everyone dies, what matters to the Mandalorian Warrior is how a person dies.

Joining a Mandalorian clan is a difficult task; the few remaining Clans are rarely seen in Republic space and exist mainly on the rim worlds. The Mandalorians do not hold membership drives and do not maintain training schools. Harsh life is their academy and survival is their acceptance form. Sometimes an individual of great skill gains the notice of one of the clans and if the clan leader considers the person worthy he (or she) is “tasked”. This “tasking” usually involves luring the candidate into a deathtrap or ambush and observing how they deal with the situation. If the person survives and proves them self honorably, keeping in mind that Mandalorian honor is different than most other beings sense of honor, they may be approached by the clan leader and offered the honor of joining the clan. If the person accepts, they are offered as marriage partner to the eligible women (or men if the potential warrior is female). The ability of the candidate’s race to interbreed with the clan is irrelevant, the person must marry into the clan to join. Once accepted and married into the clan the person undergoes Mandalorian training, which lasts for 1-5 years, if the person ever violates the Mandalorian honor of shows weakness they are slain without hesitation.

A note about Mandalorian Honor: To the Mandalorians the only thing that exempts a being from being a target is the inability to fight back, this is not the same as the unwillingness to fight back. If a being is self-aware and able to threaten the Mandalorian, he or she is potential target. Honor is found in any fight where the warrior uses methods or weapons equal to or less than those possessed the opponent. So using a blaster against a foe who is armed only with a sword is dishonorable, but attacking the same foe with a melee weapon or unarmed is perfectly acceptable. When attacking fortified areas (such as cities) war machines are acceptable so long as the inhabitants have a defensive force that has the capability to damage or destroy the war machines used by the warriors. Manadlorian Honor is a tricky thing.

    Special Abilities
Fight With Abandon – A Mandalorian fights with no regard to his own safety and as thus is able to fight far more effectively than more timid opponents. As a result a Mandalorian Warrior gains a bonus to attacks (and damage with melee weapons) equal to his level in the Mandalorian Warrior prestige class, but takes a penalty to defense equal to his level in the Mandalorian Warrior prestige class. No abilities or feats which increase defense may be used in conjunction with this ability, this includes but is not limited to Dodge, Combat Expertise, Defensive Martial Arts, Light Saber Defense, and similar abilities. Nor may the Mandalorian Warrior fight defensively or use total defense combat actions. (Abilities which require a dodge opponent to be selected to use, such as Agile Riposte may be employed but the Mandalorian Warrior does not gain the dodge defense bonus).

Warrior Aspect – As a Mandalorian Warrior gains experience in combat and defeats enemies he gains an insight into the thought processes of sentient beings. This understanding of the nature of thinking beings gives him a +2 Insight bonus when using the Intimidate and Sense Motive skills.

Bonus Feat – At 2nd level and again at 4th level the character gains a bonus feat that may be chosen from any of the combat-oriented or survival feats (those dealing with combat ability and savings throws).

Warrior Spirit – At 3rd level the character gains a +1 bonus to all Savings throw checks and an additional +4 bonus to resist stunning attacks.

Death Before Dishonor – At 4th level Mandalorian Warrior has learned to focus so intently combat that he gains a resistance to any outside influences during a fight. While engaged in combat the Mandalorian Warrior gains a +4 synergy bonus to any Will saves that are made in response to mind affecting or influencing skills, abilities or powers. These include things such as the Fear skill, Affect Mind skill, the Inspire Fear class ability, ect, Furthermore the Mandalorian Warrior gains a +2 insight bonus to Sense Motive checks made against Feinting in combat checks.

Heroes Death – At 5th level the Mandalorian Warrior is able to overcome the limitations of the flesh and continue fighting even as his body is dying. If a Mandalorian Warrior takes wound damage in combat, he may ignore the normal penalties (-2 to Strength and Dex) and remains conscious and combat ready until the character reaches –10 wounds. Upon reaching this threshold the character simply dies, their body can withstand no more.

Note: In order to advance in the Mandalorian Warrior prestige class the character must earn a Reputation point in honorable battle before they can gain a level and must earn another Reputation point in honorable battle after attaining the level before they may advance to the next level in the class.
